LINTHICUM, MD, August 1, 2019— NFM Lending is pleased to honor Reno Truant as the NFM Salute for August 2019.

Reno attended the Henry Ford Trade School in Dearborn, Michigan from 1939 to 1942. At the age of 17, he felt a calling to serve his country and asked his parents to sign a release to allow him to join the Marines prior to turning 18. The Marines saw Reno’s training from the Henry Ford Trade School as an asset and after boot camp in San Diego, sent him to Washington D.C for Aircraft training school to become an Aircraft Mechanic. Reno was then stationed in the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific, where he worked on Douglas Dive Bombers and F4U Corsair Fighter planes. He served from 1942-1946. Reno just turned 94 in June.

Reno was nominated by his granddaughter, Liz Snead.

“I nominated Reno Truant for the NFM Salute because he has dedicated his life to the service of others. Beginning with his service in the Marines, Reno served his country, his family, and his community.”

NFM Salute is an initiative in which one military member or Veteran is chosen each month to be honored as the “Salute of the Month.” Salutes are chosen from nominations on the NFM Salute website, www.nfmsalute.com. Selected NFM Salutes may choose from one of the following three non-profits: Platoon 22, AnySoldier, and the Gary Sinise Foundation. Reno chose the Gary Sinise Foundation to receive this month’s donation. NFM looks forward to the opportunity to continue to honor military and Veterans through the NFM Salute initiative.

Getting ready to purchase a home is a huge financial undertaking. While you are probably aware of having to save up for a down payment, you might not know about closing cost fees. Don’t be taken by surprise at the closing table; here’s what you need to know about closing costs.

What are closing costs?

Closing costs are the fees charged for services performed during the home purchasing process that you will pay at closing. Closing is the final step of the loan process and is a meeting between you (the buyer), the seller, and closing officer (a lawyer or title/escrow company representative, depending on the state). You will review the legal documents provided in your loan package and execute all required documents. This step is extremely important, as it is the final confirmation of the loan terms as discussed with your lender.

What fees are included in closing costs?

The closing costs you might have to pay will vary based on the property, where you live, and the loan you choose. The following are a few of the most common fees you may see.

Again, closing costs will not be the same for everyone as they vary by region. On average, most homebuyers typically pay about 2 to 5 percent of the home purchase price. For example, if the home costs $250,000, you might pay between $5,000 and $12,500 in closing fees.

Can I avoid closing costs?

It is likely you might be able to avoid some closing cost, but not all. Here a few ways to save on closing costs.

Your lender will provide you with an estimate of what closing costs will be at the beginning of your application process, which will allow you the chance to shop around to find the best lender and deal for you. After finding a lender and going through the loan process, you will receive a closing disclosure, or the final closing cost total, at least 3 business days prior to closing. This is your time to make sure everything looks right and if you have questions or find a mistake, you have time to contact your lender. If you’re worried about how much you’ll pay in closing costs, there’s plenty of options for you! NFM participates in most state bond programs that provide closing cost assistance.

LINTHICUM, MD, July 1, 2019— NFM Lending is pleased to honor Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Evans as the NFM Salute for July 2019.

LTC Evans attended West Point, graduating in 2000. Her first duty station was Fort Hood, Texas, where she was commissioned as an Army engineer officer. After serving in the 1st Cavalry Division’s 20th Engineer Battalion for 5 years, LTC Evans decided to leave the Army and join the Florida National Guard. This decision allowed her to pursue engineering while keeping involved in the military for the next 11 years.

LTC Evans was a pioneer for women in combat leadership roles, making history by becoming the first female company commander of three different organizations: she was the first female commander of the 53rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion in Florida, and in 2017 became the first female Task Force Commander. It wasn’t until 2015 that women could be in a combat role.

During her time in the National Guard, LTC Evans commanded an engineering company and led 300 missions in the combat zone during Operation Iraqi Freedom II in Baghdad, Iraq. In 2016, she deployed to Central America for a six-month long training mission. She commanded another task force comprised of 400 soldiers throughout three countries. The task force partnered with military forces and police, training them to recognize and fight back against human trafficking and drugs.

After 19 years of service, LTC Evans founded E2 Design and Construction in March 2017. Remaining active in supporting her community and country, she is serves on several non-profit boards, including the West Point Society of North Florida as President. She also led relief efforts in the Florida Keys during Hurricane Irma in September 2017.

LTC Evans was nominated by her friend and loan originator, Elysia Stobbe.

“Gratefully, a large portion of my clients at NFM Lending are in the military. I am privileged to be able to help many Veterans and soldiers currently serving our country. During my work with them, I am sometimes able to get a glimpse of their personal and professional lives and how they contribute to our world for the betterment of all of us. No one stands out to me more than the dynamic, driven, and humble Elizabeth Evans. I am honored to be able to nominate her for the NFM Salute.”

Are you looking to update your bathroom but need to do so on a budget? Use this list of bathroom renovation ideas to inspire your next DIY project.

1. New Paint

The quickest way to give your bathroom a refresh is by simply giving it a new coat of paint. However, don’t be mistaken into thinking it will be an easy DIY project. Your bathroom is full of nooks and crannies that you’ll have to paint around (such as toilets and showers). When choosing colors, stick with earth tones for a spa-like feel. If you want to give it modern twist, choose an accent wall to make a bright color that really pops.

2. Add Wall Decor

Just because it’s a bathroom doesn’t mean you can’t feature some cool wall decor. Hang up some paintings or mirrors. If you have the space, add a couple shelves for plants, frames or even signs. The possibilities are endless.

3. Replace the Mirror

Swap your same old boring rectangle or square mirror for a fun shape! It can be a circle, or even a collage made up of a couple mirrors. You’d be surprised at how much different a room can feel by making just this one change.

4. New Hardware

Give the hardware in your bathroom an update. Replace your faucet, knobs, light fixtures and towel racks. Give your shower head an upgrade. If it’s in your budget, consider replacing your sink entirely.

5. Update the Vanity

Don’t let your tight budget hold you back. Rather than replacing the entire vanity, repaint or stain it. This will make it feel like new without draining your wallet. If you do want to replace it, don’t buy new – upcycle! A vintage table or dresser might require some work but will be well worth it!

Giving your bathroom a makeover doesn’t need to be costly. There are plenty of bathroom renovations you can do yourself. If you are looking for a larger-scale remodel, there are several financing options available.

If you have any questions or want more information about what options are available to you, contact one of our licensed Mortgage Loan Originators.
